About Watt Versus

Watt Versus compares portable power stations, jump starters and tire inflators, so you can choose between similar models without reading five spec sheets. Every comparison ends with a plain answer: who should buy which one, and who should buy neither.

What we publish

  • VS comparisons put two models side by side, with one spec table and a clear pick.
  • Reviews cover one product: what it does well, where it falls short, and who it suits.
  • Guides explain the basics, such as how many watt-hours you need or how to size a jump starter for your engine.

How we research

Our reviews are research-based. We do not run a test lab, and unless a page says otherwise we have not handled the product.

For each model we read the manufacturer's specification sheet and user manual, check the figures against the manufacturer's own product page, and compare them with the closest competing models. Where a manufacturer's numbers are unclear, or two of its documents disagree, we say so instead of guessing.

When a page includes hands-on use or our own photos, it says so on that page.

Product photos on this site come from the manufacturers and are credited to them. They remain the manufacturers' property.

How we score

Every product gets an editorial score out of 10. The score is our judgment of how well the product does its job compared with others of the same size and type. It is an opinion, not a measurement, and the pros, cons and verdict explain the reasoning.

For portable power stations we weigh:

  • Capacity for the size and weight
  • Continuous and surge output, and what that can run
  • Battery chemistry and rated cycle life
  • Recharge speed from a wall outlet and from solar
  • Ports, expandability, and app or backup (UPS) features
  • Warranty length

For jump starters and tire inflators we weigh:

  • Whether it suits the engine or tire size it is sold for
  • Battery capacity and the number of uses per charge the manufacturer states
  • Safety protections and included accessories
  • Size, weight and warranty length

A lower score does not mean a bad product. It usually means the product suits a narrower use, and the review says which.

How we use AI

Drafts on this site are prepared with AI assistance from manufacturers' published information. A person checks each page against the source material and edits it before it is published.

Why we do not show prices

Prices on Amazon change constantly, sometimes several times a day. Instead of printing a number that may already be out of date, our buttons take you to the product page, where you always see the current price and availability.

How the site is funded

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Links marked "(paid link)" are affiliate links: if you buy after clicking one, we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you.

That commission never decides which product we recommend or how we score it, and brands cannot pay for a score or a place in a list. Read the full affiliate disclosure.
